About the event
Join Mayuri Bhandari (Professor of Yoga, LMU) for a deep dive into the Yamas and Niyamas beyond traditional interpretation.
In a world defined by systemic inequity, how do we move from individual practice to communal responsibility? We’ll explore the yoga of action (Karma Yoga) to confront the status quo, cultivate social justice, and listen to marginalized voices. Come prepared to find more questions than answers as we apply these ancient ethics to our modern, interconnected lives.
Bhandari has received international recognition for her work on the stage, screen, and ice in Bollywood and Hollywood. She is a minority in a practice that comes from her South Asian Indian background and cultural heritage. She uses her platform to bring light to Jainism, her spiritual tradition rooted in ahimsa, or nonviolence. Representing less than 1% of the Indian population, she brings an essential voice to reclaiming yoga's roots across multiple Indian backgrounds.
